Letter From the Founder

I was born and raised in Monrovia, Liberia, during a time when the civil war made safety the only priority, and education was often out of reach. Through God’s divine protection, my family and I were granted asylum, which led us to Accra, Ghana, and eventually to the United States, where we settled in Newark, New Jersey.

When I arrived in the U.S., I faced significant challenges in school, entering fourth grade with only first-grade reading skills. Thanks to the unwavering dedication of my teachers at TEAM Academy, I not only learned to read and write but also developed a profound love for learning. Their commitment to my growth shaped my belief in the transformative power of education.

After high school, financial constraints forced me to leave college during my freshman year. Seeking a new path, I enlisted in the United States Army as a construction engineer. Over the next decade, I trained more than 800 soldiers, served as a drill sergeant, unit OSHA, and participated in humanitarian missions building schools and hospitals in the Philippines, Mongolia, Palau, and Guam. With the help of my military benefits, I gained extensive skills in construction, engineering, and electrical systems—skills I now use to give back to my homeland.

Guided by my faith and a deep commitment to selfless service, I founded Keep Acknowledging Youth (KAY) to empower the next generation of Liberians. Our cornerstone initiative, The Tree of Life Academy (TOLA), offers transformative education and hands-on training in Business, Engineering, Nursing, Cosmetology, and Security Management. Through this work, I aim to equip young people with the skills, confidence, and opportunities to create employment, rebuild communities, and drive economic growth.

I believe every challenge in my journey was part of God’s plan to prepare me to serve others, and I am dedicated to helping Liberia’s youth rise, thrive, and lead our nation into a brighter future.
